Job 5:12 - God is in Charge

Exposition

Genesis 3 tells us how the devil’s temptation of Adam and Eve led to the fall of man. Verse 1a says the serpent (devil) was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. Other translations use “cunning and subtle” in the place of crafty. Today the devil is still in the business of seeking to destroy children of God. The devil’s devices are sometimes not obvious to man; that is where craftiness and cunning are introduced.

Our Prayer text today lets us know that the Almighty God disappoints the devices of the crafty. God has been doing that to protect His children and He continues to do so today.

Exodus 1:8 says that Pharaoh set taskmasters over the Israelites to afflict them with hard bondage and Verse 11 says the more they were afflicted the more they multiplied and grew. That was God disappointing the Crafty.

Another example can be found in Esther Chapter 7 where Haman had dug gallows where he hoped to hang Mordecai. Verse 10 tells us that Haman was hanged on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Isn’t that amazing?

You could ask why does God not stop the devil and its agents before their plans are hatched? I believe more often than not before you are aware of the devices and plans of the Enemy, the Hosts of Heaven are dispatched to destroy such plans. On the other hand, the Almighty God allows some devices to take off against us before they are nipped in the bud. God wants us to place our hope and confidence in Him. He wants us to pray to Him in our time of need. Sometimes He wants us to be aware of the great and mighty things He does on our behalf so that we can glorify Him at all times.

Prayer

I thank you, my God and my King for the uncountable things that you do for my family and I. I thank you, Lord, for what you have done and continue to do for my nation. You are wiser than the wisest; therefore the wisdom of the enemy will come to nothing in Jesus name.

As you have promised, I ask that you disappoint all the devices, plots and snares that my enemy has planned against me. I ask that you make it impossible for them to perform their enterprise. Let their machinery be destroyed by fire. Let the obstacles programmed against me be the source of their downfall in Jesus name.

Job 22:24 - Return to God

Exposition

Then shalt thou layup gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

Job was a very rich man before the devil attacked him causing him to lose children and his wealth. Just as he was encouraged by his friend to return to God and enjoy the benefits of a new relationship with God, so you are too.

You might be a wealthy man, or you have lost a lot in the past, or you are just fine or you have never been wealthy, barely making ends meet, the call is the same. You will have all that you need to live a peaceable life. Job 2:26 says you will eat and be satisfied. Psalm 68:19 tells us God daily loads us with benefits. The key word is a daily loading with benefits,

The point of living is not in the riches but in seeking God.

You are enjoined today as Matthew 6:33 says seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness and all these things shall be added to you.

Prayer

Help me father to return to you in every way. Let my focus be on you. As I live under your banner, I know poverty and lack will be far from my household in Jesus name. Let me have enough so I can be a blessing to others in Jesus name.

Job 22:23 - Return to God

Exposition

If thou return to the Almighty – To return to the Almighty is to make your home in Him. Many come to God only in times of crisis and as soon as the situation changes, they go back to living apart from Him. The call is to put your life completely in His hands.

thou shalt be built up – The Scriptures tell us He has given us everything that pertains to life and godliness. Being built up is being blessed on all sides. Your ministry and your home are blessed. Your children are blessed. Your business and your job are blessed. All you have lost is returned many times over. You become a source of blessing to those around you.

thou shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles – Putting away iniquity is simply no longer living in sin. Your tabernacle is both your heart and your physical dwelling place. There is a zero tolerance for sin.

To be built up by the Almighty, there is a heavenly shift. Make the good choice today.

Prayer

I need your help Lord in putting away sin, both big and small from my life.

Help me father to wake up from my slumber. Help me to return to you permanently today. Help me father to resist the cares of the world. Let the grip of the enemy be broken in Jesus name.

I receive by faith all that I have ever lost in Jesus name. I know there is nothing too hard for you to do in Jesus mighty name. Amen

Job 22:22 - Receive the Word of God

Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth – a life of continuous interaction is the way to go. You receive from His mouth primarily by study of the Bible which the inspired word of God, from His Ministers and also by Him speaking directly to your heart. It is now your responsibility to bow your soul and receive in your heart what He says to you. You can start by adopting any of the Bible reading plans that are available to you today. It will benefit you greatly.

and lay up his words in thine heart – What you read in the Bible, you must also retain in your heart so that it can become a daily compass for you. You will increase in wisdom as Proverbs 3:18 says she is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retains her.

Prayer

Help me father to receive your word. Help me so I do not despise what I hear from your Ministers. Help me father to grow in wisdom as I receive your word daily in Jesus name. Importantly I pray that what I receive I will retain and the cares of the world will not swallow your word in my life in Jesus name. Amen

Job 22:21 - Knowing God

Exposition

Acquaint now thyself with him – Eliphaz, one of Job’s friends felt that Job was a sinner, and that was why he suffered such grave losses. To remedy the situation, he said Job should get to know God. Eliphaz followed up by letting Job know the benefits of knowing God.

Other translations of this verse say Submit to God or agree with God.

To become acquainted with God is to become associated with Him, to know Him and His character. When you know Him, you enjoy the numerous benefits that are available to you. You also understand how God is portrayed by the enemy in a means to keep people from God.

and be at peace – The absence of war is peace and vice versa. You achieve peace when you are reconciled with God. Romans 5: 1 says Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: In the war of your flesh against your spirit, your spirit will always prevail. The man who is at peace with God lives a life of holiness, not a life of sin.

thereby good shall come unto thee – Good shall find it’s way into your life. Freedom from the law of sin and death is available to you. The favour of God is available at all times, importantly grace and mercy surround you like a shield. Help in the times of trouble is included and others too numerous to mention in this short piece.

Do you really know God? Are you confident in the ability of God to see you through the challenges of life? Are you aware of the benefits that accrue to you when you take that bold step?

All you need for life are available to you now. Take the step and there won’t be any regrets.

Prayer

I want to know you Lord. Help me to submit completely to you. Help me to agree with you that indeed you are the Almighty.

Let the wars come to an end. Help me Father to live in victory.

Open my eyes to the benefits of peace with you. Help me Lord to enjoy the benefits of peace with you.

Job 11: 20 - The wicked will fail

Prayer

Let the gang up of the wicked against your children of fail in every respect in Jesus name.

Rather let every desire of the wicked for your children go back to them in Jesus name.

Let all means of escape for the wicked be closed permanently. Let them eat of their doings.

Let your children celebrate victory in Jesus name. Amen

Job 11:19 - I am not afraid

Prayer

Yes I will lie down and I will not be afraid of arrows from the camp of the enemy neither will I be afraid of robbers.

By the grace of God I will lie down in peace knowing that those that are with me are more than those that are against me in Jesus name.

By your grace many will come to me for counsel and I will provide solutions that all time.

Job 11:18 - Secure in Hope

Prayer

Despite the challenges and difficulties around me, I thank you Lord because of my assurance that my tomorrow will be better than by today.

Help me Lord to look around in faith to see protection, provision and promotion.

I pray father that I will not live in fear, rather I will sleep in quiet and peace in Jesus name. Amen

Job 34:10 - God is not wicked

Therefore, hear me, you men of understanding: far be it from God that he should do wickedness, and from the Almighty that he should do wrong.

I ask for understanding this day my father that you are not wicked.

Let me start to understand that sickness, disease, untimely death, failure, stagnation, poverty, war, family breakdown, rebellion etc are from the wicked one.

Let every arrow of wickedness go back to the camp of the wicked one in Jesus name.

Job 13:15 - He always shows up

Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

Prayer

Help me Lord to trust in you despite every trials and challenges that come my way.

I know by your grace that you have always showed up and you will continue to show up in Jesus mighty name. Amen

Job 23:12 - Loving the word of God

I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.

Prayer

Help me so that I obey you at all times.

Give me a heart that treasures your words; a heart that wants to dwell in your presence.

I want to fall in love with you. Open me up this day in Jesus name. Amen
