Exposition
Acquaint now thyself with him – Eliphaz, one of Job’s friends felt that Job was a sinner, and that
was why he suffered such grave losses. To remedy the situation, he said Job
should get to know God. Eliphaz followed up by letting Job know the benefits of
knowing God.
Other translations of
this verse say Submit to God or agree with God.
To become acquainted
with God is to become associated with Him, to know Him and His character. When
you know Him, you enjoy the numerous benefits that are available to you. You
also understand how God is portrayed by the enemy in a means to keep people
from God.
and be at peace – The absence of war
is peace and vice versa. You achieve peace when you are reconciled with God. Romans 5: 1 says Therefore being justified
by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: In the war of
your flesh against your spirit, your spirit will always prevail. The man who is
at peace with God lives a life of holiness, not a life of sin.
thereby good shall come unto thee – Good shall find it’s way into your life. Freedom from the law of sin
and death is available to you. The favour of God is available at all times,
importantly grace and mercy surround you like a shield. Help in the times of
trouble is included and others too numerous to mention in this short piece.
Do you really know
God? Are you confident in the ability of God to see you through the challenges
of life? Are you aware of the benefits that accrue to you when you take that
bold step?
All you need for life
are available to you now. Take the step and there won’t be any regrets.
Prayer
I want to know you
Lord. Help me to submit completely to you. Help me to agree with you that
indeed you are the Almighty.
Let the wars come to
an end. Help me Father to live in victory.
Open my eyes to the
benefits of peace with you. Help me Lord to enjoy the benefits of peace with
you.
