1 Corinthians 15:10 - Grace of God

Exposition

But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all; yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me – Have you ever been in a situation where your ability has been questioned? It could have been your parenting skills, your ability to do a job properly without messing up, your religion etc. In certain parts of the world, the colour of one’s skin or accent might have led you been treated differently.

Apostle Paul’s apostleship was questioned in the Corinthian Church because of his past persecution of the Church. He might have waited for people who supported him to speak on his behalf, but he didn’t. Paul pronounced it for everyone to know that whatever he had achieved wasn’t by his power or intellect. (He was a well-learned man). It was the grace of God.
The grace of God is the very centre of Christianity. Grace starts and ends with God. It is the very essence of God. God gives to us out of His completeness and love for us. God has given gifts to us to enable us to do all that we need to do while here on earth. We do not need to do anything to receive grace from God. Grace is free. Learn to operate on the premise that ‘All we have is from God and all we are is from God’. That is why Paul said grace was ‘bestowed’ upon him.

Paul was confident of the availability of grace to him. Yes, he worked harder than his colleagues but without the grace of God, it wouldn’t have been possible. As Paul believed in the grace of God, you can believe too. You can be confident that the grace of God is available to you in your Christian walk with the Lord. It is available to enable you to fulfil the purpose of God for you.

You can trust that that His grace is sufficient for you. As you submit to God, He will seal you with His grace. James 4:6 says God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

Prayer
Help me Lord to completely humble myself under your authority. Let the grace to obey you be part and parcel of my life. As you are the God of all grace, let your grace rest upon me. Let your grace steer me in the direction purposed by you O Lord. I am aware challenges are a part of the package. Help me Lord to overcome every obstacle that comes my way in Jesus name. Amen

Psalm 90:12 - Teach Me To Number My Days

Exposition
We are reminded of our immortality whenever we become aware of the death of a known person. Death seems to come when it is least expected or to the most unexpected persons.
Untimely death seems to be the norm, the young are dying at their prime, the middle aged are not left out and the old seem to be leaving in a rapid procession. Every man will answer the question, how did you use your time? What should be the response of the wise remnant?

So teach us to number our days – The remainder of your days no matter how long they turn out to be should be spent seeking a closer relationship with God.

that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom – Diligence is important in all that we do. Wisdom is required in the application of time and resources. God who knows and sees the end from the beginning wants us to see with our spiritual eyes the end as well. We would then be able plan our life and live accordingly.

Prayer
Lord I ask for grace to live my life in surrender to you. Help me father to grow spiritually day by day.
I come in humility asking for instructions on how to spend the rest of my days. Help me to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Help me father to do as your word says. Thank you father in Jesus name. Amen

Job 22:21 - Knowing God

Exposition

Acquaint now thyself with him – Eliphaz, one of Job’s friends felt that Job was a sinner, and that was why he suffered such grave losses. To remedy the situation, he said Job should get to know God. Eliphaz followed up by letting Job know the benefits of knowing God.
Other translations of this verse say Submit to God or agree with God.
To become acquainted with God is to become associated with Him, to know Him and His character. When you know Him, you enjoy the numerous benefits that are available to you. You also understand how God is portrayed by the enemy in a means to keep people from God.

and be at peace – The absence of war is peace and vice versa. You achieve peace when you are reconciled with God. Romans 5: 1 says Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: In the war of your flesh against your spirit, your spirit will always prevail. The man who is at peace with God lives a life of holiness, not a life of sin.

thereby good shall come unto thee – Good shall find it’s way into your life. Freedom from the law of sin and death is available to you. The favour of God is available at all times, importantly grace and mercy surround you like a shield. Help in the times of trouble is included and others too numerous to mention in this short piece.

Do you really know God? Are you confident in the ability of God to see you through the challenges of life? Are you aware of the benefits that accrue to you when you take that bold step?
All you need for life are available to you now. Take the step and there won’t be any regrets.

Prayer

I want to know you Lord. Help me to submit completely to you. Help me to agree with you that indeed you are the Almighty.
Let the wars come to an end. Help me Father to live in victory.
Open my eyes to the benefits of peace with you. Help me Lord to enjoy the benefits of peace with you.

John 5:30 a - Dependence on the Master

Thoughts
Jesus Christ though he was equal to God depended on his father for everything.
If you understand that God brought you to this world for a purpose, then it is wise to ask him to lead you every day of your life. For in him we live and move and have our being. That is the recipe for success.
Prayer
I want to succeed in life.

Help me Lord to surrender completely to you in Jesus name. Amen

Proverbs 23:26 - A Surrendered Heart

My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

Prayer

Father I give you my heart, all of it.
I pray my eyes will be stayed on you, not looking to the left or to the right.
Help me to learn all you want me to know in Jesus name.
As my heart is joined to yours, I will have no choice but to walk with you.
Thank you father for choosing me, glory and honour to your name. Amen.
