1 Kings 3:9 - Give me Wisdom

Exposition

Give me an understanding heart so that I can govern your people well and know the difference between right and wrong. For who by himself is able to govern this great people of yours? -  The earlier verses state that God visited King Solomon in a dream and He, God gave him a blank cheque to ask for anything. He could have asked for wealth and peace which are not bad in themselves but he asked for an understanding heart and an ability to discern the difference between right and wrong. Solomon certainly asked the right source as Proverbs 2:6 says for the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

I believe every person needs wisdom to succeed in life, in all our relationships, on the job or business, and in the Ministry to mention a few.  James 1:5 tells us that if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Paul praying for the people of Ephesus in Ephesians 1:18 asked that the eyes of your understanding being enlightened. Just as Solomon asked, you’d be better off to ask for the same gift so that you’ll be able to differentiate between lies and truth so that you will make the right call at all times. Adam and Eve lost it in the Garden of Eden when they could not detect that the serpent was lying to them, thereby falling into temptation.

Although not part of our text today, Verses 10-12 tells us that God was pleased with Solomon’s request and apart from giving Him what He asked for, the got riches and honour to top it up. You can say the same type of prayers and in faith receive wisdom from the One whose wisdom created the heavens and the earth.

Prayer
I know that I need wisdom to survive in the world today, grant me wisdom O Lord. Help me Lord to use your wisdom not the wisdom of the world in the name of Jesus. Amen

Proverbs 16:3 - Commit All to the Lord

Exposition

Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established – It is to tell God of every situation and every plan before you go ahead. The works can be the things you want to do or things people do or say to you. It is to lay them open before Him. To commit is to transfer the responsibility for success to the Lord. To commit is to roll away every fear or distress to the Lord.
To commit is to be at rest in the Lord and to wait patiently for Him to come through. He always does and He will do for you.
To commit is not to stop you doing your daily duties. You’ll play your part and leave the Lord to play His. The added benefit is that you will receive strength for your daily duties.
He is the Way Maker. Leave Him to pave the way and you will then follow through. When you commit all to Him, you show the Master respect, you are declaring that He is Sovereign over your life. He has all the wisdom that you need. He has all the power too. Above all, He is faithful.

Prayer

I commit everything before you this day. There are things ahead of me that bring fear into my heart. There are things that I worry about, help me Lord. I also realise that there are things that I do not worry about because I have always taken care of them. I now realise this is wrong. I commit all these into your hands as well.
I ask for your strength to see me through daily from now on. Help me as I commit to come to you every day, every week, every month and every year.
Let your name be glorified in Jesus name. Amen

Psalm 90:12 - Teach Me To Number My Days

Exposition
We are reminded of our immortality whenever we become aware of the death of a known person. Death seems to come when it is least expected or to the most unexpected persons.
Untimely death seems to be the norm, the young are dying at their prime, the middle aged are not left out and the old seem to be leaving in a rapid procession. Every man will answer the question, how did you use your time? What should be the response of the wise remnant?

So teach us to number our days – The remainder of your days no matter how long they turn out to be should be spent seeking a closer relationship with God.

that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom – Diligence is important in all that we do. Wisdom is required in the application of time and resources. God who knows and sees the end from the beginning wants us to see with our spiritual eyes the end as well. We would then be able plan our life and live accordingly.

Prayer
Lord I ask for grace to live my life in surrender to you. Help me father to grow spiritually day by day.
I come in humility asking for instructions on how to spend the rest of my days. Help me to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Help me father to do as your word says. Thank you father in Jesus name. Amen

Proverbs 24:3-4 - I need Wisdom

Exposition
By wisdom a house is built – Your house could be your home or marriage or family, it could be your business or your ministry. Proverbs 3:19 says God used wisdom in laying the foundations of the earth. King Solomon said the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Let the reverential fear of the Lord reign in you from this day. Do not use the wisdom of the world for its path is destruction.

and through understanding it is established – If wisdom is the foundation, then understanding is the structure that is placed on the foundation. Note also that understanding of who you are in Christ brings longevity to every project you embark upon with Him.
Prudent management of your resources ensures that the home being built lasts forever. Concern and love for the inhabitants of the home are the responsibilities of the home builder.

by knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasures – what knowledge do you require before riches find their way into your life? An appetite for a deeper relationship opens up areas not available to the ungodly. Learn to enjoy God’s presence, meditate on the word and good success becomes yours.
Proverbs 8:18 says Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. See what Proverbs 3:9-10 says. It says Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine. Enough said.

Prayer
I ask you my father to bless me this day with the gifts of the Spirit. Three of the nine are wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
Help me Jesus to live a life of righteousness. Jesus Christ, come into my life as the foundation of all I am proposing to build.
Help me to manage my resources prudently. Let a life of waste and frivolities come to an end in Jesus name.
Let there be a strong desire to have more of you in my life. Help me Lord to spend time with you daily so as to tap into your wisdom.

I need a heart that will understand that my money and I are owned by you. Therefore I will give of my money as required by you in Jesus name. Amen
