1 Peter 1:5 - Protected by the Power of God

Exposition

Verses 1-4 of this chapter show that what God has done in the past to give you life through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and in the future giving you an inheritance that cannot be taken away from you.

God has sorted the past and the future. The past and the future are at two ends of a line. The period between them is “Now”. What is happening now? What is happening till when you go to claim your inheritance in heaven? Peter in our text says you are protected by the power of God. God has promised protection because there are challenges and battles all through life here on earth. God is omnipotent which means He is all powerful. God has never lost a battle.

We need protection from satan who goes about like a roaring lion seeking whom to devour. We need protection as we pray ‘lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil’. The job of the devil is to separate us from God by encouraging unbelief (attacking your faith) which can cause you to make decisions that are contrary to the will of God.

As the devil attacks your faith, God protects you with His power through faith. The only thing that can stop you making heaven is a loss of faith. When you take your eyes off the ball by depending on self, your wealth, intellect and people, there is a diminution of your faith in God. God protects you by sustaining and nurturing your faith, day by day.

While we are here on earth, we enjoy only a little bit of what God has in store for us. There is a much bigger picture than what we see and experience here on earth. That is why Peter says that our salvation is “ready to be revealed in the last time”. Be confident in Christ today that you can’t be short changed. The devil has lost the battle because God is on your side fighting for you with all His power.

Prayer

I thank you, Lord, for your power which is at work in me. I thank you for protecting me from the satan and agents. I thank and appreciate you for the victories that I am aware of and more importantly for the ones that I am ignorant of. With your protection, I know I will not lose my faith and I will make it to heaven in Jesus name. Amen.
