1 John 5: 4 - Faith is Key to Victory

Exposition

For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world our faith – Very many scriptures point to challenges and trials in the life of every man. John 16:33 says these things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. The world will always throw curve balls in your way.

Please be reminded that the Almighty God is still on His throne and in charge of your affairs. His promises are true and He is all powerful and all knowing. One assurance is that He answers prayers. That is His responsibility to you.

There is only one road to victory, your faith in God. This is the strength that you have. Your responsibility is to have faith in every promise of God to you. He is the promise keeper. As long as you maintain your faith moment by moment and day by day, you will overcome. Remember you are more than a conqueror through Christ who strengthens you.

If you are reading this piece and you are not born of God, there is no thirst in your soul for Jesus or there is no excitement by the Holy Spirit for Jesus, consider what you are missing, world overcoming victory. Become one with Jesus by repenting of your sins and confess that Jesus the Son of God has died for your sins. That is the key that will unlock your victory.

Prayer

Lord, thank you for all your promises to me. I used to think that every problem had been taken care off, but I now realise that problems will always arise. Help me to build my faith in Jesus. Do not allow me to succumb to temptation and unbelief. Let your name be glorified in Jesus name. Amen

1 John 4:18 - Loving God

Exposition

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear – Our father, God is love and as we are His children, we have the capacity to love Him and our neighbours too. Romans 5: 5b says the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. The day you decided to follow Jesus, love entered into you.

It is unfortunate that some rather than respond to the love of God retreat away from Him. Such people listen to negative voices that say it is hard to be a child of God and Christianity is all rules and regulations, most of which are outdated.  This is a lie from the pits of hell.

God’s love for you is perfect and your love for God in return is meant to be perfect too. Perfect love on your part is complete obedience.

Because fear hath torment, he that feareth is not made perfect in love – Decide to live in the perfect love of God , then no fear will have any hold over you. The fear of tomorrow, the fear of men, the fear of death or even the fear of the devil will be a thing of the past. Tell fear to go back to where it has come from in Jesus name. Amen.

Prayer

Help me father to know and appreciate your love for me. Help me father to respond in love by obeying you all the days of my life. As I obey, I know that every promise of God will come to pass in Jesus name.

I reject fear from this day in Jesus name. I shed every grip of fear over my life in Jesus name. Amen

1 John 4:20-21 - No more hatred

If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.

And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.

Prayer

Let my love for you be genuine.

Help me obey you by having a godly love for my brother.

Let hatred of my brother be a thing of the past in Jesus name. Amen.

1 Corinthians 3:18-19 - I need your wisdom

Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

Prayer

I do not want to deceive myself. I empty myself of all I know and all I think I know.
You have said whoever wants wisdom should ask you.
Lord give me your wisdom.
Let your name be glorified.
Thank you father. I have prayed in Jesus name. Amen.

1 John 5:21 - No idol worship

Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen

Prayer

Help me to put you above everything in my life. You have said I must have no other god.
Lord help me to identify everything in my life that has a potential to become an idol.
Help me not to adore any but you. Help me to keep my heart clean and clear.
Thank you father, I have prayed in Jesus name, Amen.

1 John 5:18 - Help me to know who I am

We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.

Prayer

I was a sinner but out of your grace I am your child because I repented of my sins and accepted Jesus as saviour.
I ask this day that the nature of sin be dead completely in me. Let my new heart hate and run away from sin.
Help me to keep away from sin and every appearance thereof.
I know it is part of your covenant to protect me from the wicked one.
Thank you from your loving kindness.
I have prayed in Jesus name, Amen.

1 John 5:14-15 - My confidence

And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:
And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

Prayer

Lord teach me your will. Help me to live according to your will. Let your desires be my desires.
Thank you for your promise of hearing my prayers. Whatsoever I ask.....
This is my confidence.
Thank you father, I have prayed in Jesus name. Amen.

1 John 5:11-13 - I believe

And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Prayer

Thank you father for giving us eternal life through your son, Jesus Christ.
I am blessed because I have Jesus: I believe Jesus is the son of God, I believe in His name.
Yes I have life.
Thank you for the heart to believe, thank you for grace. Glory be to you. Amen.

1 John 5:4-5 - I am an overcomer

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

Prayer

Jesus Christ came and conquered. I believe He is your son. I have accepted Him as my Lord and Saviour.
Thank you father for accepting me as your son.
By your grace I walk in the faith that I am an overcomer.
Thank you Sir for greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world.
I am truly blessed. Amen.

1 John 5:3

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Prayer

Out of your love, help me to keep your commandments.
Help me to realise that keeping your commandments is good for me and I can only benefit from this.
Thank you father in Jesus name. Amen

1 John 4:2-6

Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

Prayer

Father I confess that Jesus Christ is the son of God.

Open my heart to see those who are agents of the devil, who do not acknowledge that Jesus is the son of God.

Thank you because you are my father and you are in me, I have overcome the world and every plan of the devil concerning me has failed in the name of Jesus.

Every plan of the devil and his agents I nullify in Jesus name.

Let me be sensitive about the things I say. Help me not to speak as those who are in the world.

You have said you will bless me and I will be a blessing. As I speak, let the people I speak to hear me and they them be impacted.

Thank you father in Jesus’ name. Amen.

1 John 4:1

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Prayer

Father, let your spirit in me lead me in all I do.

Help me to discern the spirit behind what I hear and who I am relating with.

As the end times are here and with so many false teachers and prophets abounding, stir me to run away both physically and spiritually whenever I come into contact with anything or word that is not expressly from you.

Teach me how to guard my mind.

Thank you father in Jesus’ name. Amen

1 John 3:19-24

And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.
Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

Prayer

Lord I thank you that I am not condemned because I know you have paid the price for me.

You know the beginning of my life from the end and the end from the beginning.

My confidence is in you not in any other.

I bless you father, knowing that if I keep your commandments anything I ask for, I will receive from you.

Let me not forget your commandments and help me to keep your commandments.

I believe in your son, Jesus Christ.

I am submitted to him and I continue to try to love my fellow man.

Lord where I fail, lift me up, you know my heart.

As I try to hide myself in you, come in today into my life and overwhelm me with your presence.

Let your spirit rule me.

1 John 3:11-18

For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.
Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

Prayer

Thank you for the word of life. Thank you for enabling me to abide in you. Lord, take away any hatred in my life.

As you laid your life for me, I want to be in a position for lay down my life for my fellow man.

I pray that as I come across those in need, what you have provided for me, I will be able to share with them.

I pray that the heart of love in me will grow and be genuine and is not artificial.

Thank father in Jesus’ name. Amen

1 John 3:4-10

Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

Prayer

Father, I know that for me to maintain my relationship with you, I must obey you and be like you.

Sin has to be far away from me. When I sin it indicates I am behaving like someone who has not had an encounter with you. I am saying that the devil owes me. That is certainly not so.

As I ask for forgiveness, I also say let your spirit in me help me.

As you sent Jesus to come to this world to destroy the works of the devil, let every hold of the devil over my life in any area whatsoever be destroyed now in Jesus’ name.

I determine that your seed will remain in me because I am born of you and the world at large will know that I am your child.

Your righteousness will continue to show in me and I will love my brother.

Thank you for continuing to steer me in the right direction.

Thank you for Jesus. Amen

1 John 3:1-3

Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

Prayer

You have showered me with love. You died for me and I am now your son.

When you were on earth, the world did not know you, so the world cannot know me.

I am your child, help me to be like you. You are coming back soon, I have to be ready.

Let a desire to be pure be my watchword.

1 John 2:25-29

And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.
These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

Prayer

Thank you for the gift of eternal life.

Let me not be derailed by those who are out to seduce me.

Let the anointing I have received dwell richly in me. Importantly I want to dwell in Christ.

I pray that I will not do anything that will bring disappointment to you father.

As you have declared me righteous, with your help I will continue to be righteous to show that I am of you.

1 John 2:18-24

Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

Prayer

Thank you for warning me that the antichrist is here.

Help me to guard my mind, ears and eyes so that I will be in contact only with what is good for me.

I pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to teach me all things and what I am taught I will use all the time.

As disciples of the devil continue to look for those they will rope into hell, help me to stand firm against them.

As your grace has abounded in the past, help me not to deny you.

I acknowledge you as my Lord and Master.

All that I have heard, let them abide in me.

Thank you father in Jesus name. Amen.

1 John 2:12-17

I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning.
I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father.
I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning.
I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Prayer

Thank you for forgiving me of all my sins out of your loving kindness.

Thank you because by your death and resurrection, you overcame the devil and I am a partaker in your victory.

Thank you father for revealing yourself to me, and enabling me to know you.
Let your word continue to abide inside me.

Help me concentrate my focus on you. I pray that my mind will not be on the things of this world, things that do not add any value to my journey towards heaven.

Teach me to love you. Help me to kill the lust of the eyes and the pride of life.

Let fleshly things and carnality die totally in my life.

I do not want to die and go to hell. I want to have eternal life.

Let my desires come to pass.

Thank you father in Jesus name. Amen

1 John 2:8-11

Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.

Prayer

By your grace the darkness in my life is past and your true light is shining on me.
Teach me to emulate you. Help me to stay in your light.

I must always remember that you have loved me without any preconditions, therefore help me to love my neighbour no matter the situation.

Your light must shine in me. I do not want to have anything to do with the devil by hating my brother. I refuse to walk in darkness as I ask again for the light of God to overwhelm me.

Thank you father in Jesus name. Amen
