1 Samuel 15:35 - God Will Not Reject Me

Exposition

The LORD had rejected Saul from being King over Israel mainly because of his disobedience. We should continue to pray that God would have no reason to reject us as His children and also from any position that we occupy.

Saul had been anointed King over Israel and told specifically to obey the words of God. His first assignment was to smite the Amalekites and utterly destroy them without sparing any one of them including their animals. The Amalekites had attacked the Israelites when they were leaving Egypt hundreds of years ago. Please note that God does not forget sin.
Saul in his wisdom destroyed the people but he spared King Agag and the best of the animals. We are told he destroyed all that he considered worthless.
Verse 11 says God repented that He had made Saul, king. The repentance of God was the same as grieving at the disobedience of Saul. He feels the same when his children who are made in His image and after His likeness disobey His word. Disobedience is a choice to reject the Almighty God and His word. The other part is the alternative which is to align with satan against the Almighty God.
God gives room for His children to confess their sins and come back to Him in repentance. 1 John 1:9 says if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

In the case of Saul, when Samuel confronted him, Saul said in Verse 13 that he had performed the commandment of the LORD. On further questioning, Saul said it was the people who spared the animals. He came up with a litany of excuses. Do you always have a reason not to do the right thing? Do you hide behind someone else rather than own up to wrong doing? Saul did not take his chances to repent and he was punished.
Saul said the people kept the animals to use them as sacrifices to Samuel’s God not his own God. He had missed it completely. God is not interested in animal sacrifice. The sacrifices acceptable to God are a heart of repentance and bodies presented as living sacrifices which are holy and acceptable unto Him.

Saul did as he pleased which is an evidence of pride. It has been said that pride always leads to a fall. Is there hidden pride in your heart? It is easy to compare Saul’s relationship with God to David’s. David though not perfect was quick to seek forgiveness whenever he sinned. We can also use this opportunity to assess ourselves by asking, where am I with God? Do I please people rather than please God? Am I humble enough to seek forgiveness when I have done wrong?

Prayer

I ask that you search my heart, remove every form of wickedness in Jesus name. Let your word cleanse every iniquity in me in Jesus name. Let every hidden pride be exposed. Give me a humble heart O God. Let a reverential fear envelope my heart such that I will desire to do the right things at all times in Jesus name.

Proverbs 16: 7 - Pleasing God

There is so much chaos around the world today and peace seems so far away. Here is an invitation from the Almighty who is all knowing and all powerful - do things my way and I will take away worry from your life. John 14:27 - Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. In our day to day lives, we sometimes have to go the extra mile with people in other to achieve our own purpose. Here is an opportunity to replace a life of unending fear with a life of peace in Jesus Christ.

Exposition

When a man’s ways please the LORD – One way to please God is to show mercy always and live a life of truth, then you will find favour with God and man.  Proverbs 3: 3-4.
Another way to please God is to live a life of faith always, not only on Sundays. Hebrews 11:6 says but without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him – Satan has a battalion of agents, seen and unseen working for him against you. Romans 8:31 says if God be for us, who can be against us? God has the ability to cause the enemies to worship at your feet. Read Revelation 3: 9

Prayer
Let my ways please you O Lord. Let my thoughts and my deeds give you pleasure. Help me to resist pleasing the world rather than pleasing you.
Let the enemies give up on me. Let their evil plans come to nothing in Jesus name. I ask that you cause your angels to encamp round about me in Jesus name.
Let me enjoy peace all the days of my life in Jesus name. Amen

Leviticus 20:23 - Walking God's Way.

And you shall not walk in the customs of the nation that I am driving out before you, for they did all these things, and therefore I detested them.
Prayer
Help me Lord so I do not walk in the way of the world.
I want to live a life that will bring honour to you at all times.
My prayer is that I never do anything that will be detestable in your sight in Jesus name. Amen

1 Thessalonians 2:4 - Pleasing God

But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which tests our hearts.
Prayer
Thank you for trusting your children with proclaiming the gospel.
I pray that day after day I will please you in this and in every area of my life in Jesus name.

Proverbs 16:7 - Pleasing God

When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Prayer

Father, I ask today that you give me a heart that desires to please you.
Lord, help me to live a life that is all about giving you delight in my actions, where I go, my thoughts and the words I speak.
Father I know the heart of the king is in your hands, Lord as I start to please you, cause my enemies to start to favour me. I know that with you all things are possible.
Make it impossible for my enemies to rise up against me as you did with Saul and the early Christians.
Let me have peace on every side. Thank you father in Jesus name. Amen
