Psalm 118:24 - The Day Made by God

Exposition

This is the day the LORD has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it – The Psalmist simply lets us know that seeing a new day or in this instance, a New Year is not of our making. There is no skill or intellect involved in being alive to see a New Year. Many must have made plans for this day, but sadly it is not so. We are alive because of the grace and the mercy of God.

That is why our response to the benevolence of God is rejoicing and gladness. It is a day of joy and rest. It is also a day that a decision can be made to decide to follow Jesus for the rest of your life after realising that without Him the situation would be different.

Prayer

Thank you, Father, for allowing me to see another year. By your grace I am alive and I am we. Going forward, I ask that You help me in my desire to renew my relationship with You. Lord, my tomorrow is in your hands, let this New Year be the best year ever in my life. Protect me from all evil in Jesus name. Amen

Philippians 4:4 - Rejoicing Always

Exposition

Rejoice – to rejoice means to be full of joy. It is not an accident that one of the fruits of the spirit is joy. It is in your hands whether you wake up sad and stay sad or for you to look in the mirror and decide that the joy of the Lord will  see you through each and every day.

in the Lord -  Rejoice in His love for you. Rejoice that you are heaven bound. Rejoice in His promises for you. Whatever the Lord has said concerning you will always come to pass. Rejoice that your Lord, Jesus is seated at the right hand of God interceding for you.

always – Your state of mind is not meant to be defined by your health or your financial situation. Neither should it be defined by whatever the enemy seems to be doing. Despite the challenges being faced, your knowledge that your father always comes good should put a smile on your face. Let your joy put confusion into the camp of the enemy.

and again I say, Rejoice – You are reminded that if you really live in Christ, stirring up joy in the knowledge of what Christ did for you and He continues to do should bring rejoicing to my heart at all times.

Prayer

Let every attempt by the enemy to envelope me with sadness and ingratitude come to nothing in Jesus name.

I take responsibility to rejoice in You at all times. Help me not to abdicate this responsibility to circumstances in Jesus name.

Let there be a song in my heart to You at all times in Jesus name.

I pray that my new countenance of joy will cause people to ask me why I am always happy. Help me so I am able to introduce them to you in Jesus name. Amen

Habakkuk 3:17-18 - I will rejoice in the LORD

Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls,

yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

Prayer

Help me LORD so that whatever the trial that comes my way, my heart is stayed on you.

By your grace the blessings of perseverance will be mine in Jesus name.

I will rejoice in you at all times, the God of my salvation.
