1 Peter 2:12 - Honouring God

Exposition

Our text today follows on from Verse 9 which declares you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
The believer is called to maintain good conduct, to live properly and to behave excellently among unbelievers every moment of his life for a reason. In the Bible times (early days of the Church, believers were the scapegoats for everything that went wrong in the society. Unbelievers are looking for every straw to hold on to, so as not to accept the finished work of Jesus Christ. You want to make sure that you will never be the reason why an unbeliever continues not to accept Jesus Christ.

Today you are called to be different, remember that according to Verse 11, you are a stranger and a pilgrim here on earth. For example when the world around you exhibits hatred, you should show love, when the world walks in pride, you show humility, when fear abounds, you show faith in Jesus Christ, when there’s impatience you are patient, where there is greed, you respond with contentment and where there are lies you always stand for the truth.

Please understand that how you run your business or perform on your job is important to God. The testimony of God’s goodness that you share with unbelievers at every opportunity is important too. When your behaviour is in contrast with what obtains around you, the light in you starts to shine as Matthew 5:16 says, men will see your good deeds and they (unbelievers) will give glory to your Father in heaven. Rather than the world affecting you, the opposite happens. You are different and the world wants to know why. They will ask you in some form or the other and as you introduce Jesus Christ to them, they will glorify God.

Wherever you are now, you are there for a purpose, make sure you are different.

Prayer

Let my conduct be worship unto you. As I lift you up through my conduct, I pray You will draw men unto yourself. I pray that unbelievers will have no evil word to say about me. Let your name be glorified in Jesus name. Amen

PRAYER

Help me Lord to honour you and to glorify you. Help me Lord to recognise you and give you thanks for everything in my life.
Claiming wisdom in my own self is exhibiting foolishness, therefore open my eyes to acknowledge you as my source.
Help me Lord not to fall for the lies of the enemy in every area including homosexuality in Jesus name.
I am your child and by grace I will remain so for ever. There will be no reason for you to give up on me in Jesus name. Amen.

But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not trust in me enough to honour me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.
Prayer
Moses and Aaron did not obey God.
Let my trust in you be enough, such that I will honour you at all times rather than choose easy options.
Let all I do honour you in the sight of the believer and unbeliever in Jesus name. Amen

Malachi 1:6 - I must honour God

A son honours his father, and a servant his master. If then I am a father, where is my honour? And if I am a master, where is my fear? says the LORD of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. But you say, 'How have we despised your name?
Prayer
Help me honour you my Lord in thoughts, words and deeds.
Help me give you the honour that you deserve.
Let the spirit of the fear of the Lord reign in me.
Help me give you the reverence that is due to you.
My action or inaction must not despise my Lord and Master in Jesus name. Amen.
