Genesis 5: 24 - Walk With God

Exposition

Enoch walked with God despite God not being physically present with Him. We are told in Hebrews 5:11 that he did not die, rather he was translated to heaven just as Prophet Elijah was too.

Enoch lived in times just before the flood that destroyed the earth. The Bible says there was wickedness in the heart of men and men’s thoughts were wicked. The world today is no different from what transpired back then. Enoch’s life is an example of the life we are meant to live in our generation. To walk with God is to agree with God as Amos 3:3 says can two walk together except they agree?

Walking together with God is walking in tandem, step by step with God. Man is meant to align his steps with God and not the other way round.

You will become friendly and close to the person you walk with every day. As you walk, you’ll share stuff that is close to your heart, your joys and challenges will be a matter for conversation. You will be able to stand up for one another. You will get to know the secrets of God because you will be intimate with Him.

We can only become close to God through Jesus Christ, for he came to bridge the gap between man and God. Today the Holy Spirit is the part of the Godhead that is available to man at all times. You can start a determined walk today by setting apart time to get to know Jesus. Read your Bible, meditate on what you read, decide to be obedient and pray. Be determined to be a witness of Jesus Christ. Spread the Good News.

Prayer

Lord, I want to be your friend and I want to know you more. I want to walk with you, talk with you, listen to you and be close to your heartbeat. Help me to share our relationship with the world. Let me be a part of what you are doing in these times. Teach me all it takes to walk with you. Let my life be pleasing to you alone in Jesus name. Amen.

Genesis 18:19 - Know Me, Lord

Exposition

About Abraham - the Lord said I know him. Knowing a person means there is a relationship developed through spending time or being friendly with the person. Abraham’s relationship with God was based on mutual trust- no secrets. Are you aware that you can develop the same level of intimacy with your Father in heaven? That is what God wants from you. God wants to say, I know you. Set time to seek Him daily through reading the Bible and prayer. You can desire His guidance in every area, and with ease, the Holy Spirit will show you the way.

The person who has an intimate relationship with God will do all within his power to lead the family in the way of Christ. Joshua 24:15 says as for me and my household we shall serve the Lord. Some say religion is personal but you better believe that questions will be asked of you, did you teach your household the fear of God? Start encouraging service in the house of God, do not hesitate to use the parental authority bestowed upon you with Godly wisdom. God did not hide anything from Abraham because He knew he would pass them on to his household for their benefit. The same applies to you. I can assure you that there are things God wants to let you into. Be available.

By grace, you are in the same position that Abraham was with God. Abraham’s descendants could only claim the covenant blessings through obedience. The Almighty God has a covenant with you through Jesus Christ. Your accepting Him into your life opens the door to covenant blessings. Too many of us believe that as soon as we give our lives, the floodgates are opened.  You’ve got to walk the talk daily, the walk of righteousness and justice. It is well.

Prayer

I want to know you. I do not want head knowledge. I want to encounter you. Open my eyes to understand the power behind the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Let that same power start to work for me too. Let my faith in you grow. As I grow in faith, find me worthy to share secrets with me. Help me with my children. I do not want to exchange places with them. Help me to remain the parent and them, the children. Let every covenant blessing locate me now in Jesus mighty name. Amen.

Genesis 22:17 - Possessing the gates of the New Year

Exposition

I will surely bless you and will greatly multiply your seed like the stars of the heavens and like the sand which is on the seashore; and your seed shall possess the gate of his enemies – Abraham had just passed a test of his faith and God in sealed his blessings with an oath. His faith was rewarded with a blessing and his seed was rewarded with multiplication and victory over enemies.

Did you notice the promise was to his seed and not his seeds? Jesus Christ was the seed and you are the seed of Jesus. In Jesus, you receive the physical and the spiritual. You receive salvation, eternal life and much more.

Most homes have walls around them with a gate used for entrance and exit. In the bible times, apart from gates protecting the city against invaders, they were places where business transactions were consummated and government decisions were announced. Legal matters were also resolved at the gates. The gates were the center of all activities in the cities.

So when you possess the gates of your enemies it means you have conquered them and they have become your subjects. You are in control. Just as we have physical gates, there are also gates in the spiritual realm. Before things happen in the physical, a lot has taken place in the spiritual. The heavens release blessings and the unseen enemies attempt to withhold them.

For example, a new year has gates and blessings are released as a result of the prayers of the saints. The enemy and its agents do everything to control the gates so that the blessings do not get to the intended recipients.

It is good to be happy at the dawn of a New Year but there are steps that have to be taken before the New Year arrives.

You have to contend with the real enemy that does not want you to enjoy the blessings associated with the New Year. Remember the one who controls the gates of 2017 has the victories throughout the year. Fight the battle, the Lord is on your side!!

Prayer

Let the glory of God surround me and protect me against the plans of the evil one. Every blessing from God will arrive at my doorstep and I will enjoy them in Jesus name.

I come against every agent of the enemy assigned to stop my blessings. Let every gang up against me be scattered in Jesus name. Let confusion reign in their midst. Let the power of God destroy them in Jesus name. Let every plan of disappointment and sickness come to nothing in Jesus name. I thank you for my victory as I possess the gates of my enemies in Jesus name. Amen

Genesis 18: 3 - Do Not Pass Me By

The first two verses tell us that God appeared to Abraham. He had appeared to him earlier in Chapter 17. The encounters of Abraham were for a reason. God wants intimacy and friendship with his children.

Exposition

And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant – An encounter with God will lead to a turnaround in the life of any man. Destinies are awakened and stagnation becomes a thing of the past. Read Isaiah 6: 1-8 and see a man come unto himself. He realised his spiritual state and at the same time got his matching orders. His life was never the same again.

Abraham recognised this and invited the Lord into his home. Jesus is knocking on the door of your heart. Jesus does not force himself on people. Jesus comes in and prepares a table before you in the presence of your enemies. He anoints your head with oil and your cup starts to run over. Open the door and the story of your life begins afresh. Jesus is able to meet every need.

The first requirement is to be born again. Do not delay.

Prayer

I accept the Lordship of Christ. Thank you for washing away my sins.

Come my way now O Lord. I am desperate for you. Come into my life, come into my home. Beautify me O Lord. Talk to me, let me hear from you. Let my life be renewed afresh, my Father and my King. Favour me my Father. Do not depart from me, for in your presence is fullness of joy and at your right hand, there are pleasures for evermore. Let it be so in my life in Jesus name.
