Exposition
It is a
faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him – Apostle
Paul writing to Timothy supposed that if the body of Christ (Christians) are
dead with Jesus Christ, then it goes without saying that they will also live
with Him. Why? He, Jesus Christ is risen from the dead and He is alive
forevermore.
Why did Jesus die? The Law
said in Romans 6: 23 that the wages
of sin is death and the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our
Lord. Jesus took upon Himself the sins of mankind to the cross. Jesus took our
place because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Adam and Eve sinned and
their sin was transferred to all mankind.
By accepting that He died
in your place, you are now a part of Him. This means that you died with Him. If
you visit a funeral parlour there would be dead bodies in storage being
prepared for burial. Dead means dead because they can’t perform any functions
whatsoever. They can no longer be tempted, neither can they sin or react to the
goings on in the world. So are you meant to be, if you are in Christ Jesus,
dead to sin as it has no power over you any longer.
You are now alive with
Him. Jesus lives with God the Father in heaven. You are here on earth
temporarily and on the way to heaven where you will reign in eternity with
Jesus Christ.
Make the best of your time
here on earth. Remember at all times that the devil and sin have no power over
you. That was settled by Jesus Christ. Enjoy your union in Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Thank you for dying in my
place. As the power of sin over me has been broken and I am now dead to sin,
let that grace continue to abound over me in Jesus name.
Help me to look forward to
eternity always. Let this truth drive my thoughts, words and actions in Jesus
name. Amen
